Olney's White Squirrels


For more than 100 years, Olney area has been home to the largest known population of white squirrels. The best viewing spots are Olney City Park, Millers Grove and several residential neighborhoods with mature trees and feeding stations. Look for them in the early morning hours when they are most active.

The All American Picnic, formerly known as the Starlight Festival

Rotary Park, Olney

Held on third Saturday in July and hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Richland County. A lighted boat parade on East Fork Lake. Food, disk golf, family activities, entertainment and a lighted boat parade at dusk.

Boating and Fishing

Borah Lake


Located north of Olney, Borah Lake features shoreline fishing and boating.


East Fork Lake

N. Silver and Millers Grove Rd., Olney

This 934-acre lake located north of Olney has 33 miles of shoreline and offers fishing, water-skiing and other family activities.


Vernor Lake


Adjacent to the Richland Country Club, on Rt. 130, Vernor offers fishing and small boating.

Buckhorn Wildlife Preserve

A cabin that will accommodate 6 individuals is available for hunters, business meetings, family reunions or weekend get-a-ways.

Fox Creek Outfitters

5371 Fox Rd., Olney

Located in one of the country's top states for producing Trophy Whitetail Deer, along with the Eastern Wild Turkey. Situated on privately owned land, the cabin is surrounded by hardwood timber, river bottoms, and rich farm fields. Fox Creek offers guided and non-guided deer hunts each season. Several cabins are available for hunters.


Pine Lodge Outfitters

4830 E. Wayne Lane, Parkersburg

Two lodges available for hunters. Both sleeping 4-8 hunters and have fully equipped kitchens, multiple bathrooms, and family rooms with TVs.

Guided bow hunts with hunting grounds in Richland and Edwards counties. Lodging is included. A minimum of 4 hunters per hunt is required.


Ridge Outfitting

555 N IL 130, Parkersburg

Hunts at Ridge Outfitting are semi-guided. A typical five-day hunt will include six days on the property. Five nights of lodging at a local motel are included. The first day will be spent meeting your guide, going over the rules, the hunting areas, boundaries of these areas, what has been seen in these areas, and setting up your stand. The other five days will be hunting days.

Bird Haven, Robert Ridgway Memorial Arboretum & Sanctuary


Located on the southern side of East Fork Lake, at Millers Grove, this site is a living tribute to Robert Ridgway, naturalist, scientist, artist and author.

A walking trail allows visitors' to view over 50 different varieties of trees, fauna and wildlife. A world-renowned man, Dr. Ridgway was an authority in the field of ornithology with the Smithsonian Institute.


Millers Grove


Adjacent to Bird Haven, this park offers fishing, picnic shelters, and a playground.


Musgrove Park


The Musgrove Park features an aquatic center complete with water slide, basketball courts, a playground and soccer fields.


Noble City Park


Features ball diamonds, picnic shelters and a playground.


Olney City Park

305 N. West St., Olney

This beautiful park, in the heart of Olney, features tennis courts, picnic shelters, a community building and ball diamonds. It is one of the best places to spot the town's unusual white squirrels.


Rotary Park

Kiwanis Road, Olney

Located on the north side of East Fork Lake. Playground Equipment, VITA path (Fitness/exercise trail) and Disc Golf! (A.K.A. Frisbee Golf) Bring your own Frisbee or Discs or they can be purchased at Wal-Mart. Fun for the entire family or the serious enthusiast! Also, offering opportunities for you to fish, picnic and boat.
