Genealogy research has recently become a national phenomenon. It seems everyone is looking for information on their ancestors and traveling great distances to research their family trees. If your ancestors are from Southeastern Illinois here are several places to begin your research. Mount Carmel Public Library

727 Mulberry St., Mount Carmel

Hours: Mon. - Thurs. 11 am - 7 pm; Fri. - Sat. 11 am - 5:30 pm; Sun. 1 pm - 5 pm

This library features an exhibit that commemorates the time Abraham Lincoln spent in Mt. Carmel during his campaign for the Harrison-Tyler presidential ticket in 1840.

Wabash County Museum

320 N. Market Street, Mount Carmel

Hours: Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons from 2-5 pm

The Wabash County Museum is dedicated to the preservation of local area history through preservation and conservation of artifacts and memorabilia. It offers rotating exhibits about local history, industry, local families and their way of life in a new location at 320 N. Market Street. The museum has 5,000 sq. ft. of public space for exhibits, meetings and research genealogy library, and is handicapped accessible.
